For family and friends of pornography or sexual addicts there can be a lot of confusion, pain, and questions. One post alone cannot touch the topic. The one principle that may be most important is the principle of understanding the addiction. Having a surface only understanding is what causes the most anger, pain, and feelings of helplessness. The truth is that those who truly want to understand and help an addicts must gain a similar understanding and as the addict themselves.
Addiction literally re-wires the brain. The limbic or instinctive part of the brain is what addiction thrives off of. The logical or frontal part of the brain becomes weakened and less stable the deeper addiciton becomes. There is a process to healing the damage done. Loved ones need to find ways to accept the process of recovery just as the addict does. It is only human to want a quick fix or miraculous event to suddenly make the addiction go away. IF that were possible we would surely package it up and tell you to take two with water
